A Kingdom of Shadows was a fun and interesting story. It took a couple chapters for me to really get invested in the story enough that I had to keep reading. But it was only because I feel like I was just trying to wrap my head around the “setting” for the story. Once I got into it though it captured me. As the description above suggests it did feel very much like a Wingfeather Saga type of story. However, it clearly was not. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading others in this series.

I highly recommend getting this for your middle grade reader. It would make a great family read aloud. It had a lot of adventure, relationship building and it even kept you guessing. There was a bit of a twist from where it started. I love when a book doesn’t give away the ending too early. This one kept it secret for a really long time. But it all came together so smoothly.
