Some thoughts on God’s Redeeming love

I was in the shower, you know that one place you actually get some peace and quiet without a child climbing all over you, and I was thinking and praying. The book Redeeming Love kept coming back to me. If you have never read that book its a historical fiction novel written by Francine Rivers based on the Old Testament book of Hosea. It’s about a Prostitute and a man who’s last name is Hosea and how God reveals his love for people through these two people’s lives. It’s my favorite book. I read it at least once a year.

Anyway, I was reminded of this story and the story of Hosea and how God revealed his love for us his children through their lives. How many times we as a people have turned away from him and sinned and kept going back to that sin even after being reminded of God’s goodness and love for us. How many times have I myself asked God to forgive me for not being the Christian I should be? Too many times than I should.

Our nation has turned away from God but God still loves us. All we need to do is ask for his forgiveness and turn our lives around. He will take us back. Why? Even after all we have done? Yes he loves us that much.  We may have to pay the consequences, because we know with any action there is a consequence to pay. Good actions bring good consequences. Bad actions bring bad consequences. But whether or not we have consequences to pay we need to turn this nation around.

We can’t turn our nation around until we turn ourselves around. We need to ask forgiveness for our too lax behavior. We need to ask forgiveness for not staying in communication with Him. We need to ask forgiveness for the junk we fill up our lives with that have nothing whatsoever to do with Him.  We need to ask Him to lead us in the right directions for our lives.

Are we doing what God wants us to do or are we following our own plans?

Think about it. Pray about it. Ponder it. And if you get a chance pick up a copy of Redeeming Love and read it.
