The Burning of Rosemont Abbey tells the story of Paul Everly’s mysterious disappearance, leaving his determined twin sister, Louisa, to uncover the truth. While the entire English village believes Paul was a troublemaker who simply fled after the abbey burned down, Louisa refuses to accept this and is convinced he would never burn down the abbey. Despite the objections of her brother’s closest friend, Inspector Malcolm Sinclair, Louisa embarks on a quest to uncover what really happened to Paul.

This was my first book by Naomi Stephens and I must say she will be added to my new authors to watch list. I really enjoyed how the mystery unfolded. Just when I thought I had it figured out, something would happen to twist the story in a new direction. It was a captivating read, and the time period and setting were perfect for creating such a compelling mystery.

Had the story been set in a different time, particularly in the post-war era, the murder would have posed significant plot challenges. I enjoy a good post-war story, but if this had taken place in America, I don’t think the heroine would have been able to investigate as thoroughly, and it would have taken much longer to uncover the connections.

I highly recommend this book to fans of historical fiction and mystery novels. It was an enjoyable read with some lighthearted moments mixed in.
